Task One: Glotal Stop anf Vowels

The glotal has no English equivalent. It is pronounced with a stoppage in the throat.

There are approximately 5 vowels in the Tałtan alphabet. Following are examples of each, along with the English equivalent / description, an example word and the meaning. For pronunciation reference click the example Tahltan word.

ā                    Same as au
in caught                                        anlā                 you make

e                     Same as e in ten                                                e                 don’t

ē                    Same as e but longer in duration                         bēs                  knife

i                     Same as e in enough, or ee in keep                     int’ īni              you have

ī                     Same as i but longer in duration                         ant’īni               you’re doing

o                    Same as oa in oats                                           khoh                grizzly bear

ō                    Same as o in go                                                    chō                  big, large

 Same as oo in boot                                               ghu                  tooth

   Same as u but longer in duration                           dūda                 how
